BE PERFECT
Jesus said, "Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect." This word perfect means finished, complete, mature, pure and holy. It means coming to completeness within ourselves, where no part of us is defective or not yet dealt with. It means living with a consistency among all people and especially within our own consciousness. Or, to let our entire personality in Christ be complete, proportionate and regulated.
Thomas H. Green writes, "The passage, "Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect," does convey an important spiritual truth revealed by Jesus. His command is not "make yourself perfect," but "be made" perfect. The love, even for our enemies, which Jesus commands is not our work but his work in us. That makes all the difference. As he said after the rich young man departed, "Things that are impossible for men are possible with God."
As Paul, an apostle wrote, "But he (Jesus) said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness." So, I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me."
Our goal is to become mature, complete and finished as we allow the perfection of Christ to form us.
Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
Jesus
